What if my trigger date changes?

If a trigger date changes, for instance, a trial date gets continued for 60 days, the related events generated by CalendarRules may have to be recalculated.  In these situations, you can change the trigger date and resubmit it for recalculation of the existing related events.  You can review the events before saving them and select which ones to update, add, or delete, in situations where some dates may have been changed by stipulation or by a judge’s order.

It is easy to resubmit the new trigger date and recalculate the existing related events.  Follow these steps:

  1. Open the trigger event.  Before changing the date of the trigger event, you can review the existing related events.  To do that, click on “CLICK HERE to view related events” located on the top middle of the trigger event page.  Close the list of related events when you are finished reviewing them.

  2. Enter the new date for the trigger event and make any other edits to the trigger events, then hit either the Save or the Save and Calculate Docket button.

  3. You will receive a prompt:  “This event has related events, would you like to update them?” with two options, Yes or No.

    1. Select Yes if you want to recalculate any of the related events.  You will have the chance to review them, make edits, and select which ones to update on the next step.

    2. Select No if you do not want to update any of the related events.

  4. If you selected Yes to whether you want to update any of the related events, you will see another prompt: “Do you want to see all related events or only update the existing related events?” with two options:

    1. Show me all related events.  Selecting this option will display the Docket Calculator and take you through all of the steps when calculating a docket with CalendarRules.  All related events will be recalculated, however, only the ones that are selected by the user will be saved in the system. Events that are not checked by the user are not recalculated based on the new trigger date. Any of the previously calculated events that exist in the system but are not selected at this step will remain unchanged in the system.

    2. Update only the existing events.  Selecting this option will display the updated dates only for those events that already exist in the system.  For example, if only certain events were saved when the related events were initially created based on the original trigger date, only those events will be displayed.  Again, you will have the chance to review the recalculated events and only events that are selected by the user will be saved in the system.
